Supporting Women’s Participation in Political Arena in Timor-Leste
Background Organization
Caucus founded pursuant to requirement in moment all existing woman organizations in Rede Feto fight for participation 30% in Parliament Election 2002. This election very importance because member of parliament chosen will formulate constitution of Timor Leste.
For the agenda of strengthening and giving guarantee in woman participation in council of parliament is a requirement to give a education of politics for 150 member candidate of parliament of political party, organization and representative of woman. This education of politics called as “Politics Skill Training” facility by Gender Affairs UNTAET in May 2002. From this training emerge a new woman group which named Women Caucus in Politics. This women group promising to assist and support other woman to be brave conduct development in the world of politics.
On 8 June 2002, by official, Caucus, women in politics established.

Activities of Caucus, Women in Politic :
· Campaign for the women candidate of independent in election of Parliament National 2002 and conduct promotion for the participation of woman in politics ( 2001)
· Civic Education of the Konstitution of Assembly Election ( 2001)
· Socializing 10 woman charter – Konstitution of Timor Leste in district level ( 2004)
· Made observation National Parliament during 2002 - 2004
· Conduct training about politic for women in 12 district of Timor Leste (2002/2003)
· Facilitate Member of National Parlement to 4 districts such as Aileu, Ermera Bobonaro and Oecusse (2002)
· Conduct reflection together to commemorate the first anniversary Restoration of Independence of Timor Leste on national level with topic “Looked up emancipation of women and women in development during a year. (November 2003)
· Campaign for women through bulletin Caucus (2003)
· Monitoring program (sharing working experience between women in national level and women in international level (2003-2004)
· Socialization of Election Law in 17 sub district (2003)
· Conduct a workshop for preparation women in election desa (2003)
· Running education of voter on village level (2004/2005)
· Formation women potential leader on 64 sub district (2004 – 2005)
· Formation leadership for member village council on 15 sub district (2005/2006)
· Seminar no workshop Women preparation in the first National Parliament Election 2007 (Law of Election)-2006
